LEARN MORE

Although we often think of air pollution as being outside the home, the EPA reports that indoor air is commonly two to five times or more polluted than outside. The quality of your indoor air impacts your comfort and health. When pollutants get inside, your home can act as a bubble that traps allergens, pollen, mold, dust, bacteria, and viruses.

At Kearney HVAC, we offer several whole-home indoor air quality solutions that can help you breathe easier, like air purifiers, dehumidifiers, and more. Our team consists of highly trained building science experts, and we only install best-in-class IAQ products, like iWave and Aprilaire

What Causes Poor Indoor Air Quality?

There are several factors that can contribute to poor indoor air quality (IAQ) in a home, such as:

  • Carbon monoxide
  • Mildew & mold
  • Dust & dirt
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • Pet dander
  • And more

The source of IAQ contamination can come from inside or outside of your home, and the team at Kearney HVAC can help find a solution based on your specific needs.

The Importance of Balanced Humidity Levels

The EPA advises maintaining home humidity levels between 30% and 50% for optimum health and comfort. Considering that people spend an average of 90% of their time indoors, proper humidity levels in the home are crucial for overall health.

Signs of low humidity levels include:

  • Dry skin
  • Irritated nasal passages
  • Chapped lips

Conversely, high indoor humidity levels can be the perfect breeding ground for common home allergens like mold, mildew, and dust mites. These allergens can cause issues like:

  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Worsened asthma & allergy symptoms
  • Respiratory problems

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms while at home, it’s time to consider a humidity solution. Our whole-house humidifiers and dehumidifiers will ensure that you have proper humidity levels throughout your home.

Aprilaire Air Quality Products

For more than 50 years, Aprilaire has been promoting indoor air quality and is a trusted name in the HVAC industry. Their whole-house air purifiers, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers increase indoor air quality by cutting down on the number of contaminants and pollutants circulating in your home.

Aprilaire indoor air quality products work with all major brands of heating and cooling systems. Even when space is tight, we can seamlessly integrate an Aprilaire system with your existing HVAC system, delivering fresh air through your existing ductwork.

As air passes through your ductwork, the iWave-R works by producing positive and negative ions and sending them out through your supply ducts and into your living spaces, purifying the air in your home right at the source of the problem. The iWave is a small device that is easily attached inside your central ductwork via magnets. You’ll never see it, and it requires no maintenance, as it has a self-cleaning design. The iWave-R air purifier:

  • Reduces allergens, odors, smoke, static electricity and other airborne particles
  • Controls odors from cooking, pets, and VOCs like cleaning products

iWave-M Air Purifier

The iWave-M offers the same ion-generating technology as other iWave models that can connect to nearly any HVAC system, including ductless heat pumps. As air flows past the iWave-M, it reduces bacteria and viruses by releasing positive and negative ions. This state-of-the-art air purification system is versatile and effective, offering benefits such as:

  • Odor control from cooking, pets, and VOCs
  • Reduced smoke and static electricity
  • No replacement parts
  • No maintenance

Myth Busting: Heat Pumps in Cold Weather

Home in winter
Just a few years ago, heat pumps were not an adequate exclusive heating system for New England homes because they couldn't operate in extremely cold conditions. However, recent technology advances have changed this.
